More birthday cakes

When my daughter was about 18 months old I began planning her 2nd birthday with vengeance. For some reason I was more concerned with planning a more fabulous 2nd birthday than I ever was with planning her 1st birthday. Maybe it was because I knew her a little better this time around and better knew what would be perfect for my little girl.

The theme? Fish.

The girl was obsessed with them. We watched the movie Shark Tale whenever I'd let her. We drew and colored pictures of fish and fish only. She talked about fish, asked questions about fish, and wanted a fish. I knew right away that I wanted to make her a fabulous fish cake I'd seen in a Women's Day magazine at my mother in law's house over the summer (she has a December birthday). I called mother in law, sure she'd still have the magazine as she is one to save everything. But no luck. She had copies of 1994's Good Housekeeping, but July's Women's Day was tossed in the garbage. Just my luck. So I began a search online and after a bit of digging was able to find the cake I had seen months ago. I read over the instructions and it seemed fairly easy.

The day before the party arrived and I began work on the cake. It was time consuming, but easy enough to assemble. I could not have been more pleased with the end result. The cake was the hit of the party and even now, 3 years after I first began planning a fish party, people are still talking about the fabulous fish cake.
